My Photos

I took these photos in my bathroom because of the white wall background. I thought the checked black and white floor was also very effective as it is very vintage, which ties in to the disco era. The background contrasts to the psychedelic colours of the model's dress, which makes the dress stand out even more.
I am very pleased with the photos, however I plan to re-capture the photos at the end of the 'story', where the model is lying on the floor, so that I can get a clearer shot, with a steadier hand, so that the photo is less blurry.

Relative Article

When looking on the Media Magazine website, I struggled to find any articles relevant to my genre: disco.
However, I found this article on Prince. Prince started his career during the disco era, and has carried on til present day. He created music from the funk, dance and rock genres, which, with the exception of rock, link closely to the disco genre.

Risk Assessment

The photo shoot will be taken indoors, in my bathroom. The main risks are listed in this slide show however there are others to be considered.
From this risk assessment I know everything I can do to keep myself and the model safe during the photo shoot.

Photo Shoot Plan - Story Board

This is the plan for my photo shoot, which is to take place in my bathroom. The reason it is here is because of the white walls, which are perfect for the background, and the checked flooring which fits perfectly with the disco genre, and contrasts massively with the psychedelic colours of the dress the model will be wearing.

Front Cover Flat Plan

For my flat plan of my front cover I have decided to have a medium close up shot of my model, in the center of the page or slightly off-center (to the right) to allow the coverlines down the left hand side to not completely cover her face. My masthead will be in bold capitals, with the two O's being replaced by images of disco balls, to show clearly to the audience that this is a disco magazine.

My model will be dressed in psychedelic colours, much like they wore in the disco era, to again show the audience the genre.
The main coverline will be across the lower-middle of the page, standing out with the main image. Other coverlines will be on either side of the image.
A tagline will be on the right hand side underneath the masthead, reading 'bringing disco back' which is the tagline that proved most favourite from my audience research.
The front cover will have a strip at the top and the bottom of the page to draw the reader in and give information into what else is included in the magazine.
There will be a puff in the top left hand corner, and a barcode in the bottom right hand corner (which I forgot to include in the picture) along with the issue number, price and date.
The colour scheme for my front cover will be metallic colours, e.g. silver to link with the disco ball, and bright colours, to link with the psychedelic clothing they wore.

Letter from the editor

Hello, and welcome to the first ever edition of Groove. This is a brand new magazine that appreciates music of the Disco genre, featuring old and new artists such as the Beegees, Diana Ross, Daft Punk, Sam Sparro and other current artists incorporating disco into their music. This magazine also features a brand new artist hoping to 'bring disco back': Patsy May.
I hope you enjoy this magazine and that it gets you groovin'.

Audience Research - Colour Scheme, Magazine Name and Tagline

The outcome for my tagline is that I will be using the phrase 'bringing disco back'. It was most popular out of all the respondents I asked. I like this phrase better than 'resurrecting disco' as it implies that my magazine is making disco popular again, which is my aim.

Audience Profile

Audience Profile
Gemma - Aged 46

Gemma is a happy and enthusiastic woman. She has many hobbies including baking, sports, and spending time with her kids. She loves dancing, and has ever since she was a young girl. Was once a big party-goer, but now only listens to the much-loved disco music while dancing to it in her home. A new disco magazine would be perfect for her as she can read about her old favourite artists while discovering new ones.
